Lost on the steamship Manchuria. 

Daniel Nichol was born on March 25th, 1880 to parents Joseph (born Normanby, Middlesbrough), and Margaret Nichol (born Thornaby), and was baptised at Christ Church, West Hartlepool, on April 23rd. At this time the family were living in Albion Street, Middleton, West Hartlepool, and Joseph is listed as a Glassmaker.

The 1901 Census shows the family – now comprising Daniel (aged 20), Margaret A. (15), and David (3), living at No.53, Alfred Street, West Hartlepool. Joseph is now listed as a shipyard labourer.

On August 7th, 1906, at St. Hilda’s Church, Hartlepool, Daniel married Annie Margaret Hick (aged 23, born Whitby), living at this time with her parents James and Jane Hick, at No.22, Town Wall, Hartlepool.
The 1911 Census shows Daniel and Annie living at No.19, Town Wall, Hartlepool, with their sons Joseph Hick (aged 7), and Fred Nichol (2). Daniel’s occupation is listed as Mast Maker.

At the time of Daniel’s death, the family are recorded as living at No.3, King Street, Hartlepool.
