On the night of October , 1908, Captain Knaggs who lived in West Hartlepool, was the commander of the brigantine Enterprise and when off the coast of Cromer his vessel was run into and sunk by the railway company's screw steamer Derwant. With the exception of a boy all crew losted their lives.

Captain Knaggs, left a wife, Elizabeth and three children.
