With 1,270 Chinese troops & passengers on board Ling Yung was wrecked at Masu Bay, Formosa on 29 October 1948. British men from HMS Cossack performed a rescue using a life line. Lieutenant Commander W. Dennis swam through rough seas to attach the line.
