The following is taken from the 'Fast Anchor', Vol.1 April 1954, No.5:
On 5th March, the single screw steamer Stanpool was launched from the Dock Yard for Stanhope Steamship Co. Ltd., of London. The vessel, of two deck type with forecastle and having five holds and deep tank, is 420ft. in length and designed to carry about 9,850 tons on a load draft of 27ft.
Accommodation is arranged in a single house, adjacent to the machinery casing and is to a high standard. Mechanical ventilation and steam heating will be fitted throughout the accommodation.
Propelling machinery, constructed by Central Marine Engine Works, will consist of triple expansion engines, having cylinders 22ins. - 37ins. - 65ins. by 48ins. stroke, coupled to a Bauer Wach exhaust turbine. Steam will be supplied by three oil-fired cylindrical boilers with forced draught and superheat.
The christening ceremony was performed by Mrs. K.H. Whitaker, wife of Mr. K.H. Whitaker.
