Ian Telfer was a player in the West Hartlepool Rugby Club Second 15, 1937-38.

Many members of the Telfer Family were members of the club before World War 2.

Under George Kirtley's Captaincy the side that season had a playing return of  26 games Won 21 Lost 4 drew 1 Pts for 346 Against 112 but did not make it to the Final of the Second Teams Cup nor the Pyman Cup.
