Ian Telfer was a player in the West Hartlepool Rugby Club Second 15, 1937-38.
Many members of the Telfer Family were members of the club before World War 2.
Under George Kirtley's Captaincy the side that season had a playing return of 26 games Won 21 Lost 4 drew 1 Pts for 346 Against 112 but did not make it to the Final of the Second Teams Cup nor the Pyman Cup. The year of 1937 was also significant for the Club as Greyhound Racing was introduced to Clarence Rd and was to be a feature of the local sporting scene for many years.
Tom Metcalfe later in life became the first person from West to become President of Durham County RFU.
