Location
A school was first built in 1838 in Front Street originally as a Church of England School. It became a Durham County Council School in 1940 and in 1953 moved to a new building close to the current school in Magdalene Drive which opened in 1981. In 1954, senior pupils were sent to Galley's Field in Hartlepool and numbers dropped. In 1968 the school was threatened with closure , however numbers rose when new housing was built in the village.
