Taken around 1938-9, the image shows the construction of Dyke House School. In the background, St Oswald's Church tower is clearly visible as is the water tower in Middleton Road. THe school was built but as World War 2 began, it was used as a billet for troops.

Location
This school officially opened in 1946 although it had been completed in 1939. For a period in 1941 it was used by children of Brougham School as troops were using that school.
In 1973 the school became Dyke House Comprehensive and in 2011 was extensively refurbished. During this time the children were taken by bus to the empty Brierton School in Catcote Road.
