ABC Cinema, Raby Road, Hartlepool opened as The Forum in 1937 and in 1958 it became the ABC. Before closure in 1983 it was the Fairworld Cinema.
This cinema was directly opposite the old Police Station in Raby Road. On the change over of shifts in the Police Station at 10pm, the finishing officers used to park in front of the cinema. At the time the Police used Mini Vans. When the night shift came out, quite often members of the public coming out of the cinema used to have to help bump start the police vans due to flat batteries.
The cinema became The Fairworld Cinema before it closed in 1983. It was demolished and the site is now the car park of Morrison's Supermarket.
