Oxford Street School

Details about Oxford Street School

This school opened in 1889. It was replaced by Stranton School in Southburn Terrace in April 1971.

It was the first school to be built by West Hartlepool School Board and was a school to accommodate 350 mixed pupils and 270 infants. By 1901, there were a staggering 1239 children on roll and an extension was needed (named the 'tin tabernacle') to house 4 classes.
