The steamship Heathpark was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-91 near Bilbao on October 5th, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Bilbao to Maryport with a cargo of iron ore.
All 25 crew were lost including 2nd Mate Thomas Speedy of West Hartlepool.
