Fate

The steamship Rydal Hall was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-75, 14 miles east of the Roayl Sovereign Light Vessel, on December 1st, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Calcutta to Dunkirk with a cargo of manganese ore.

Four crew were lost including 3rd Engineer Algernon Wright of West Hartlepool.

The other crewmen who lost their lives were: Anderson, James; Darmody, Charles Albert Edward; Sydney, Eric Frederick.
