Berhampore - a general history

Miscellaneous:  6 January 1873 from Liverpool for New Orleans off Cape Finisterre, she ran into the brig Anna Lassen & sank her. Seven of the crew jumped aboard Lake St Clair but three were drowned; 26 July 1875 she was in a collision with the ship Underwriter, owned by Joseph Wilson of South Shields; 11 February 1875 she sailed from the Mersey & after experiencing stormy weather arrived at New York on 27 December.

Lake St Clair sailed from New York on 19 January 1876 bound for Glasgow with a general cargo of 1,300 tons, including grain & flour, & a total crew of 33 & was not heard of again. It was assumed she had foundered during a hurricane that was blowing in the Atlantic towards the end of January. Most of the crew had been shipped at Liverpool.
