Demetrius - a general history

Voyages: 18 February 1857 bound for Beruit she was in collision with the Alma off Malta. Sheput back into Gibraltar with her bowsprit missing & other damage; 10 April 1858 arrived Liverpool from Cronstadt; 11 April 1858 arrived Liverpool from Cronstadt; Bound from Alexandria for Liverpool with a valuable cargo about 100 miles SW of the Scilly Isles she lost her rudder, sternpost & suffered other considerable damage. On 31 January 1860 the Crimean took her in tow & with great difficulty got her into Plymouth Sound. The owners of the Crimean were awarded salvage costs; 6 January 1870 arrived Liverpool from Ibrail; 2 December 1871 arrived at the Dardanelles from Sunderland; 9 December 1872 arrived Gravesend from Triest; 20 March 1873 arrived  Gravesend from Rotterdam; 16 June 1875 arrived Gravesend from Rotterdam; 1 July 1879 arrived Gravesend from Rotterdam.

Bound from Rotterdam for London, Demetrius was lying at anchor on the Dutch coast on 6 December 1884 when she was run into, cut down to the water’s edge & sunk by the British steamer Albula. All the crew were saved.
