John Bellamy - a general history

Miscellaneous: 25 October 1867 from London for Bombay she collided with the brigantine Eureka in the Atlantic Ocean. An inquiry was held at the Admiralty Court, Westminster instituted on behalf of the owners of the late brigantine Eureka and her cargo, to recover for the total loss of that vessel with her cargo by collision. The case occupied four days with the Court finding that the John Bellamy had failed to prove her lights were exhibited, and that she was solely to blame for the collision.

The John Bellamy left Calcutta on 10 April 1869 bound for London with a full general cargo & went ashore just north of Cape Negrais on the coast of Burma on 18 April 1869. She was abandoned the same day as she was full of water & her mainmast was through her bottom. The crew were picked up & landed at Bassein. The wreck was sold in May 1869.
