The 1901 Census shows Eliza as the Head of the Household, living at No.5, Middleton Road, West Hartlepool, with children George H. (aged 25, Butcher), Hugh Hirst (18, Apprentice Marine Engineer), and Mary A. (16). Also listed is a Boarder, 18-year old Robert Coxon, an Apprentice Marine Engineer.
Hugh married Jane Smith Rimer (date unknown), and is listed as living at No.20, Laburnum Avenue, Wallsend, at the time of his death.
