John George Copeman was baptised at Holy Trinity, Throston on 12th January 1890 son of David and Elizabeth Copeman. John was a Fireman on the SS Wega and killed when the Wega was hit by a mine on the 14th June 1917. From the Deaths at Sea records J. Copeman, Fireman died on the Wega 14th June 1917. His address is shown as c/o W. Bell , 35 Denham Street , Hartlepoool (probably Durham Street ). His parents David Copeman and Elizabeth Coates married in 1888 in Hartlepool .

 In 1891 the Copeman family lived at 2 St. Helens Place , Hartlepool . David Copeman was a labourer in the shipyard and was born in 1868 in Hartlepool . His wife Elizabeth was born in 1867 in Hartlepool . John George Copeman was then aged 1 and born in Hartlepool .

 In 1901 the Copeman family are living at 6 Wood Street , Hartlepool . David is missing. His wife Elizabeth is shown as married and there are children John G. 11, Mary 9, Louisa 7, Alfred 4, Susan 2 and Nelson 7 months. All were born in Hartlepool .

 In 1911 the Copeman family have moved again, this time to 113 High Street Hartlepool . David is at home aged 43 and is a Marine Stoker, Elizabeth is 44 and states she has been married 22 years. John G. is 21 and a Shipyard Upholsterer, Alfred 14 is a Milk Boy, Susan 12 and Nelson 10.

 Elizabeth Copeman died in 1918 and was buried at the North Cemetery on 8th April 1918, age 53, address Helmsley Street . She died on the 5th April 1918. David Copeman died at Howbeck Hospital on the 3rd June 1931.

 Seamen's records have John with a wife Catherine, nee Elland. After much searching, no evidence of a marriage can currently be found.
