Harry Lockey was born on 28th September 1886 at Micklegate York to William Lockey and his wife Harriet, nee Cliff, who had been married in 1880 in Darlington.
Sunderland born William and his Stockton born wife seemed to move around the north east quite a bit, their three sons being born in Darlington and York . They appear to have settled in Hartlepool by 1891 and were living in Frederick Street Throston. By 1911, 24 year old Harry was already a seaman having first served on the ship Caledonia in 1902.
In 1914, Harry married Margaret Wilson in Hartlepool. On 29th March 1917, he was serving on the motor lugger HMS Q20, a decoy ship, when it was sunk following a collision with SS Tainui in the English Channel and Harry lost his life. His wife at 13 Charles Street was informed of his death.
