Samuel Holmes was born on the 8th Aug 1876 in Antrim. He served in the RNR as a stoker on HMS Wildfire (Navy records on Ancestry .com say HMS Midfire) so this is unclear. He must have died in service as his body was brought to the Isle of Sheppey Cemetery Sheerness for burial.
On the records, his unofficial wife Ellen Sinclair Holmes was informed of his death at 23 Mart (?) St Hartlepool. It could be that this entry is just poorly transcribed.
