More detail »Although the weather was typically British, light drizzle of rain and heavy mist, the Hartlepool people were not to be deterred and still donned their fancy dress in the Coronation parade. The Lady at the front is being particulary patriotic with her Union Jacks and pictures of George V and Elizabeth, encouraging people to buy British Produce. There were smaller crowds than expected due to the weather which made people stay indoors and listen to the broadcast on the radio. This part of the parade took place in Lauder street (looking west to Avenue Road), the Blind school just visible in the background. 12th May 1937.

More detail »The parade along Victoria Road for the Mayor's Sunday.The photograph has been taken from a window of the Grand Hotel showing opposite to the left far side Gray Peverell's shop next to which is a small cafe and creamery owned by Mr. W. A. Harrison. The houses further along were mainly business premises e.g. coal merchants, upholsterers,dentists,photographers.This section was built in three stages which later became Binns Department Store and was the reason Binns building was made in three different types of architecture. The Tramcar in the parade was number 10 and new in 1897. Police in uniform can be seen leading the parade followed by the Mayor and other officials. c 1913.

Thispicture possibly dates from 1886 when Sangers Circus undertook a huge tour with West Hartlepool being the most Northerly call.
A popular song of the time detailing the tours was popular with the West Hartlepool section being mentioned as
"West Hartlepool was rather cool"
