On a voyage from Glasgow to Alexandria with a cargo of stone & a crew of 31 Hartdale was torpedoed by German submarine (U-27 Berd Wegener) & sank 7 miles SE by E of South Rock, Irish Channel at 6am on 13 March 1915. 29 survivors were picked up by the Swedish steamer Heimdal & landed at Bangor. Master - Thomas Martin. Two lives were lost.
