Bound from Cuba for Queenstown with a cargo of sugar George Pyman was torpedoed by German submarine (U-49 Richard Hartmann) & sank in 52.55N/13.56W 130 miles NW of Tearaght Island, County Clare, Ireland on 17 May 1917. No lives lost.

Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligencer, Thursday, February 27th, 1913:
WEST HARTLEPOOL STEAMER ASHORE. London, Wednesday Night. The West Hartlepool steamer, George Pyman, outward bound from Cardiff for Port Said, with coal, went ashore near Port Said in a sandstorm yesterday. Attempts to refloat her have been unsuccessful, but her position is not serious. The George Pyman is of 3,559 tons gross register, and valued at £30,000, whilst the cargo on board represents an additional £8,000. The vessel is one of the fleet owned by Messrs. Geo. Pyman and Co., of West Hartlepool.
