H.D. Pochin sailed from Hartlepool on 5 March 1883 bound for Wismar with a cargo of 1090 tons of coal, 180 tons of bunker coal & a crew of 18 & was not seen again. It was thought she was overladen & had foundered soon after her departure during severe gales in the North Sea. A brass plaque from the vessel washed up at Withernsea on 25 March 1883. All 18 lives were lost.
