10 August 1895 ashore between Donges & Paimboeuf.
Bound from Cette for Bona in ballast the British cargo ship Hasland because of a leak in her tank foundered in the Gulf of Lyons on 29 March 1911. The vessel had been insufficiently ballasted & her equipment was in an unsafe condition. Sending a vessel to sea under these conditions was down to the owner. The company had four ships & lost another ship, Everest, the following day. The Cardiff Wreck Court found that both vessels had been over-insured. Hasland had been purchased in 1898 for £9,600 & at the time of her loss was for sale for £6,500 but the Court thought her value to be nearer £5,000.
