Murex sailed from West Hartlepool on July 26th, 1892 on a voyage for the Russian port of Batum where she loaded 4,000 tonnes of kerosene. She passed through the Suez Canal on August 24th, 1892 and discharged her cargo at Singapore and Bangkok.
On a voyage fron Sydney, NSW for Balik Papan, Borneo in ballast & with a total crew of 43 Murex was stranded at Brill Reef in the Java Sea on 16 July 1912. 1 life was lost.
