Photograph says taken in 1908, the church on the corner of Middleton and Clarence Roads was to serve the Scandanavian community in the town and those visiting who were primarily in shipping and timber trades.

Swedish ChurchThe Swedish or Scandanavian church was on the corner of Middleton Road and Clarence Road and opened in 1885. It was the oldest Swedish Mission church in the world. In 1955 it was demolished, the congregation moved to Middlesbrough and although another Swedish Church was planned for the town, it was never built.
