Richard "Dick" Ripley was selected as Britain's second best runner for the 1924 Paris Games. His team took bronze in the 4x400m relay. Dick won 27 gold medals in his career before a ligament injury prevented further competition. He was born in North Ormesby and grew up in Hartlepool. This photo would have been taken in the 1920s.
