Location
Elwick School was opened in 1850, close to St Peter's Church.. In a Northern Daily Mail report of 1958, it was described as damp, crowded and with poor sanitary arrangements. There were just two classrooms and a small dining room which had once been a classroom.
In 1958, foundations were laid for a new school in North Lane, and this was opened for pupils in September 1959. Since that date the school has been further extended.
