Joseph Henry HOWELLS, standing right, born c1896 Hartlepool, Served from 17 Nov 1915, Ser. No. 22/354 L/Cpl. 22nd. D.L.I. awarded the Military Medal in 1917. All three HOWELLS brothers survived the war and were demobbed.

These images are from two albums which are part of a unique record of young men and women who were members of the Oxford Road Baptist Church, West Hartlepool and enlisted in the First World War. Some of the photos and postcards note; Name, Rank, Service No., Regiment and the dates letters and parcels were sent to them. The originator of this collection was a Mr. Fred Marsden a member of the Church and also a Postman. 'Fred's little book' as it is referred to contains 177 separate entries.
