The Norwegian steamship Eden was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-70 (Werner Furbringer), 10 miles south of Worthing, on April 30th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from the Tyne to Rouen with a cargo of coal. No lives were lost. Master O. Kopstad.
