Donated by Jacky ArmstrongA street party around the late 1940s-early 1950s, possibly in the Tristram Avenue area. The large flag with the diamond shape on it, is probably a ship's signal flag, letter "F", meaning 'I am disabled - communicate with me'. The background of the flag is white and the diamond red.

Part of the Library collection collectionTaken looking towards Shakespeare Avenue, the street running across the photograph is Bede Grove. The houses were built in the mid 1920s. In 1941 six people were killed by an enemy air raid on this spot.
