Road in the Dyke House area off Challoner Road, the original housing in 1946 was post war prefabs now demolished and homes rebuilt.

Donated by Mr. Neil WainwrightOn the left Neil Wainwright (on the left), about 6 years old & big brother Ian 10 years old, in the back garden of No.8 Lime Grove, West Hartlepool. Both attended the nearby (Old) Jesmond Road School. "The Prefabs were temporary war accomodation, demolished in the 1970-80's or there abouts? They were made of a sort of cardboard, warm and you could bounce of the walls and still get up to continue the chase!"

Prefabs Heather Grove
Part of the Hartlepool Museum Service collectionHeather Grove is off Jesmond Road near Easington Road.The prefabs which were built as a temporary measure after World War 2 were demolished in this area in 1990. The General Hospital can be seen in the background.

Prefabs in Lime Grove 1946
Part of the Library collection collectionA number of prefabricated houses were built in the Dyke House area following World War 2. In 1946, Lime Grove (later Crescent) Willow Grove, Birch Grove and Larch Grove were named. The houses in the background are probably either in Easington Road or Raby Road.
