Factory built house
Created by NDM
Donated by Hartlepool Museum ServiceThis house in Parkland Way West Park is the first 'factory built' house in the town constructed by Yuill the builders and this prototype was unveiled on 3rd July 1966. The local builder had been to Canada to investigate timber framed houses and built a factory in Brenda Road to produce the necessary components. The advantage of this was to reduce man hours by a half and also to provide better insulation.

West Park looking south
Part of the Library collection collectionThe photograph is taken from about the corner of Park Drive and West Park looking south in the early 1960s probably. On the right, the older houses are easily recognisable and just before those houses, behind the trres, is the start of Coniscliffe Road.
The two houses being constructed are there today, but are now surrounded by others.
The house with the butterfly roof was being constructed for Councillor J.O. Curry.
