The Devon, Church Street, Hartlepool was a public house that was entered by going downstairs in to the building. It was frequented by locals as well as a lot of foreign seamen.
A little later than this 1953 advert, The Devon had quite a reputation and it was not for food ! Knowing this, advert is quite amusing although it was serious at the time !
