In 1948, it was obvious that a school was needed for the growing Rift House Estate. Many houses were built, many others planned and the post war birth rate was high.
The building was begun in January 1951 and was completed in July 1952. Children attended from 1st September 1952 and the official opening was on 25th September 1952. Including land, building and furnishings, the school cost £58,619. The first head teacher was Miss Nancy Dale.
The school was built for 120 infant age children in three classrooms and 160 of junior age in four classrooms.
This was taken from the official opening booklet of 25th September 1952. The five children(one only a toddler!) were probably pulled in from outside as it doesn't give the impression that the school was open at the time of the photo !
