More detail »Taken in December 1940, Arthur Sanderson is the man on the far right standing. Arthur was 6' 4'' and was Gladys Harris' brother. He had been a village policeman and a railway labourer.
Sadly he took his own life in 1966.
More detail »Arthur is third from left and this is probably in the early 1930s. Arthur had been a policeman but resigned and became a railway labourer.
He was sent to Italy in World War 2 but was badly wounded and returned to working on the railway.

Edward Rodmell was born in 1887 and died in 1963 and was sextant at Spion Kop Cemetery.

On the photo third from right on top row is Tommy Harland 1904-81 who was Gladys Harland's father. Tommy had lost a leg in a motorcycle accident on the Tees Road in October 1924.

He was Private 43138 in the Durham Light Infantry and was killed in action at 18 years just after the photo was taken on 23.3.1918.
He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Pas de Calais.

Philip was born in 1877 and died in 1935. He married Margaret Rodwell and they were the parents of Lilian Sanderson who married Thomas Harland. THey in turn were the parents of Gladys Harris nee Harland.

Their parents grandad Philip Hunter Sanderson was born in 1877 and died in 1935. Gladys just remembered his funeral and completing the group is Grandma Sanderson who was also born in 1877 and died in 1961.
