Not a great image, but this was taken in 1953 when the office was decorated for the Coronation of Elizabeth the 2nd. The building is still there on the corner of York Road and Lucan Street and although the upper floors of this and the property to the right are the same, the shop frontage is greatly altered.

Taken in the early 1960s, the Beeline bus sign says Torquay but it is an unlikely destination for so many buses from a school. The headmaster, Sid Rawlings can be seen surrounded by female staff wearing their 'pac a macs' which were a must in the 1960s on potentially rainy school trips ! The teacher looking towards the camera is Miss Lilian Watchman. Probably a trip to the Roman Wall indicated on another photo.

Beeline were a local firm that specialised in mystery tours, club outin day trips and longer holidays to places like Bournemouth, Margate, The Trossachs, Carnoustie and the Isle of Wight where they owned the Royal York Hotel.

The date will be about 1954.

For many years Rogers' Confectioner & Tobacconist's shop was at the corner of Oxford Street and Stockton Road. The shop itself says Oxford Corner. There is a Travel Agency sign in the left hand window of the shop and on the pavement outside is a sign advertising 'Bee Line Excursions'. The Bee Line garage was in Oxford Road almost diagonally opposite the shop. On the right hand side of the photo is Oxford Street School.

This 130 bedroom hotel was in Ryde on the Isle of Wight which was a very popular destination for Bee Line holiday makers. The company bought and refurbished the hotel in 1967 and Mr Ray Hardwick the managing director of Bee Line at the time said how this brought real value for money for the holiday maker.

It was an Art Deco building from 1938 with wonderful views across the sea. The decline in this type of holiday meant that Ellerman Beeline eventually sold the property and the building declined finally closing in the early part of this century. The grade 2 listed building currently lies derelict and in a very sad condition.

Taken from a colour slide from the early 1960s are some fine Bee Line buses. Mr. Sid Rawlings, the head teacher wearing a hat, is standing at the back.
