St Paul's School, Mainsforth Terrace

Details about St Paul's School, Mainsforth Terrace

This school opened in 1866 in a music hall and Wesleyan mission hall. It was sold to the School Board in 1876 and became an infants' school until at least 1913. W.R Owen's book of 1913 describes it as ' ill adapted for school work and the absence of a playground forces the children  on the streets, a dangerous necessity, seeing the trams to Seaton run close past the school. It is intended to take steps, in the near future, to remedy this condition of affairs.'

The school was probably on the corner of Mainsforth Terrace and Ramsay Street quite near Burbank Street.
