Excelsior Male Voice Choir
Donated by Hartlepool Museum ServiceThese choirs were very popular in West Hartlepool in the early 1900s. A world festival was held in Paris at Whitsun each year. Excelsior competed in 1911 & 1912 and did well in 1911. At the end of a competition there was a parade of all contestants-hence the sign which had a teddy-bear (representing the monkey).
In front of building displaying date 1861 & shield with three guns which is the Barracks at Hartlepool in Baltic Street.
