More detail »The Riviera was in Middleton Grange Lane and this advert was from 1967 when the club was very popular. Nightclubs were new to the town and of course drink was served in them after 10.30 pm when the pubs closed. The club opened in August 1966 and was the first nightclub in the town. It belonged to John Collins who had entertainment premises at Seaton and the building had previously belonged to Hartlepool Yacht Club.
The Riviera was nicknamed 'The Claggy Mat' in the late 1960s.
