Westmoreland Street, Hartlepool
The street was demolished in 1970 along with nearby Northumberland Street.
Taken from Waldon Street looking towards Stockton Road, the Lion Social Club is on the right and between the shops is Westmoreland Street. The shop on the right is still there although is now an office, but all the other buildings are now demolished. In the background is Stranton Primary School, which was opened in 1971, so therefore the photo date is more likely to be much later than 1965 suggested.

More detail »A rare picture of Westbourne Methodist Church showing the front of the original building without the current group of mature Trees.
The picture is undated but prominent are the trolley bus posts and the houses at the bottom of Westmoreland Street are private homes and not shops as they were later to become. The prominent poster at the Church entrance cannot be read.
The buildings of the building business on the extreme right are now used by a garage business.
