Cleveland Road 1
Part of the Library collectionLooking towards west towards West Hartlepool, the houses are in Cleveland Road Central Estate and were those which were badly damaged in the Great Fire of January 1922. when the timber yard opposite caught fire.
The houses were demolished in the late 1970s but the Central Hotel(The Klondike) on the second block from the right remained until 1981.

Donated by Hartlepool Museum ServiceShortly after the fire, the Mayor of Hartlepool. J.T. Turner, started a fund for the fire victims. Within a couple of days, £1,300 had been raised including £100 from both the King and Sir William Gray.
