In convoy CB-1 on a voyage from Durban for Mombassa & Colombo with 8,005 tons of coal & a crew of 96 City of Oran was torpedoed by German submarine U-196 (Eitel Friedrich Kentrat) off Mozambique in 13.54S/41.16E on 2 August 1843 & scuttled by escort HMS Masterful on 3 August 1843.
