Conch left Novorossisk on 4 May on a voyage for Colombo where she discharged two fifths of her cargo. She then set off for Ceylon & the Madras coast when, on 3 June 1903, shestruck Akarta rock off the Sri Lanka coast. Local divers refer to this rock as Passi rock. She went down resting against the rock-spilling oil and becoming Sri Lanka's first oil tanker wreck. The lost cargo was worth about £10,000. The wreck is situated about 10 miles from Hikkaduwa on the SW coast of Sri Lanka.
