In convoy OB-216 on a voyage from London for Glasgow, Capetown & Bombay with 3000 tons of general cargo, 166 crew & 155 passengers City of Simla was torpedoed by German submarine U-138 (Wolfgang Luth) & sank 52 miles NW of Rathlin Island on 21 September 1940. One passenger & two of the crew lost their lives. Master Herbert Percival.
