Fate

The French steamship Saint Chamond was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-60 (Franz Grunert) off Saint Ives Head, Cornwall, on April 28th, 1918. She was on a voyage from Glasgow for St Nazaire, France, with a cargo of five or more railway locomotives on deck which were to replace engines lost in the hostilities ready for the allied advance.
