On a voyage from Bona for Rotterdam with a cargo of iron-ore & a crew of 23 Laristan sank after a collision off the Goodwin Sands with the S.S. Crimea of Cardiff on 22 October 1899. The crew had stayed by their vessel for some time as she lay head down with just her stern showing above water. Eventually there was a loud explosion, caused by the pressure of air between the bulkheads, & the vessel plunged out of sight.
