Delta sprang a leak in heavy seas after hitting a wreck between Hainan Head & Tienpak off the Kwangtung coast on 28 November 1891. Although the pumps were used the water gained rapidly & approximately 80 passengers & crew were taken off the sinking vessel by four junks on promise of payment of $300 each. They were taken to Tien Pak & from there to Hong Kong aboard the steam launch Shanghai. Delta foundered a few minutes after she was abandoned. There had been no Europeans aboard.
