Voyages: When Rowa arrived at Corcubion from Pireaus in April 1910 she underwent temporary repairs after damage sustained by stranding at Skyros at the end of 1909. In July 1910 she was been found to have a slight defect in the steering gear due to slackness which was caused by wear & tear. This was repaired before she left Dundee on 14 July 1910. Going down the Tyne on 20 July the wheel stuck so more steam was given to the engine & this remedied the fault. On a voyage from the Tyne to Genoa with a cargo of 5,000 tons of coal as she passed Cape St Vincent, Portugal her steam steering gear jammed. She was too close inshore for any effective steps to be taken to secure her safety. At 4pm on 29 July 1910 the Eugenie took the crew off. The master remained on the vessel until 6.30pm & the vessel foundered at 7.55pm due to damage sustained when she stranded on rocks. The inquiry found the loss to have been caused by defective steering gear & although they thought it bad practice for the vessels to hug the coast in the area she was wrecked it was not illegal so the engineer & master were exonerated of any blame.
