General Williams - a general history

Owners: 1856 Gifford, Devy & Co, London; 1858 Borneo Company, London (main shareholders were Chinese merchants).

Masters: 1857 J Carter: 1858-59 McMillan.

Voyages: 17 January 1857 left Newcastle-on-Tyne for Genoa with a general cargo; 1857 Hartlepool for the Mediterranean; 17 June 1858 sailed from Singapore; 4 July 1858 arrived Siam with a general cargo.

General Williams was not registered in the UK after 1858 & may have foundered or been wrecked in 1859. She was not removed from Lloyds Register until 1868. There was another General Williams wrecked in 1859 which may cause confusion.
