Armais - a general history

Masters: 1852 John Cain (C.N. 5673 London); 1853-59 Alexander Locke (C.N. 495 London 1847): 1860-61 Townsend.

Voyages: from London arrived at Sydney, New South Wales 8 July 1857.

The Palmerston reported seeing the Armais off the Isle of Wight on 17 March 1859 in heavy gales; 1860-61 Liverpool for South America.

Bound from Hartlepool for Arica, Peru with coal & coke, a crew of 17 & a pilot the Armais stranded on Haisborough Sand on 6 December 1861. The crew took to their boat & were taken aboard the lightship until being picked up & landed at Great Yarmouth. The vessel disappeared under the sand. Her insurance value was £4,250.
